How to Maintain 60-70% Humidity in Glass Terrariums for Ball Pythons

A common challenge with screen-top glass terrariums is low humidity, which often results in incomplete sheds and stuck eye caps.

Here are 3 proven techniques to stabilize enclosure humidity:

1. Cover 80% of the Screen Top Wire mesh tops allow warm, humid air to escape rapidly. Covering the majority of the mesh (leaving a 2-inch perimeter around overhead heat lamps) with HVAC aluminum foil tape or acrylic panels traps humidity effectively.

2. Use Moisture-Retentive Substrate Replace dry aspen bedding with coconut husk chips (such as ReptiChip), cypress mulch, or an organic topsoil blend that holds moisture without molding.

3. Pour Water in the Corners (Avoid Surface Misting) Light misting only creates temporary surface moisture that evaporates in minutes and can promote scale rot if the top layer stays wet. Instead, pour a cup of water directly into the bottom corners of the substrate. This hydrates the deep base layer while leaving the top surface dry for the animal to rest on.
