Safe Live Reptile Shipping: Temperature Guidelines, Heat Packs & Hub Pickup Rules

Shipping live reptiles safely is the most critical responsibility of any breeder or seller. Weather conditions, insulated packaging, and thermal packs dictate the wellbeing of the animal.

Safe Temperature Windows:

• 65°F to 85°F (18°C - 29°C): Safe green zone. Overnight priority shipping with standard insulated 3/4-inch EPS foam boxes. No thermal packs needed in mild 70-78°F weather.
• 40°F to 65°F (4°C - 18°C): Cold zone. Requires 3/4-inch EPS foam lining and an activated UniHeat 40-hour or 72-hour shipping pack.
• Above 90°F (32°C): Extreme heat. Hold shipment or use Phase 22 cooling panels with direct hold for pickup at an air-conditioned courier hub.
• Below 38°F (3°C): Freezing risk. Do not ship; place orders on temporary weather hold until temperatures stabilize.

Core Best Practices:

1. Never tape heat packs next to the animal: Always tape the heat pack securely to the inside lid of the box with crumpled unprinted paper as a thermal buffer.
2. Punch ventilation holes: Add two small pencil-sized holes through the outer box and foam walls.
3. Ship on Tuesdays & Wednesdays: Avoid Mondays to prevent carrier sorting backlogs, and avoid Thursdays/Fridays so shipments never get stranded over the weekend.
4. Ship to authorized courier hubs: Having buyers collect at their local hub eliminates extended hours inside delivery vans during hot afternoons or freezing mornings.
